What Visions do

Vision crystals let party members use the magic and abilities of legendary heroes. Building a stronger bond unlocks more abilities, while staggering every enemy in one turn enables an exceptionally powerful Resonance attack with an equipped Vision.

How players obtain Visions

Vision crystals can be obtained from Sanctums of Light, side quests, and battle rewards. The producer says all 26 Visions can be earned by progressing through the game, with no paid Vision gacha or Vision DLC required. Exact sanctuary routes and quest requirements should wait for official details or launch testing.

Confirmed Vision characters

Square Enix's official Japanese character page currently names ten legacy heroes. A confirmed identity does not mean that every ability or unlock condition has been revealed.

  • Warrior of Light — Final Fantasy
  • Cecil — Final Fantasy IV
  • Bartz — Final Fantasy V
  • Terra — Final Fantasy VI
  • Cloud — Final Fantasy VII
  • Squall — Final Fantasy VIII
  • Zidane — Final Fantasy IX
  • Tidus — Final Fantasy X
  • Shantotto — Final Fantasy XI
  • Y'shtola — Final Fantasy XIV

Confirmed Vision roles

The newly detailed Visions already point to different party-building jobs rather than cosmetic cameos.

  • Cecil mixes light and dark attacks with defense and healing.
  • Bartz uses fire and ice attacks and is effective at staggering enemies.
  • Squall increases his standard-attack damage as he keeps using normal attacks.
  • Zidane steals items and drains enemy vitality and speed to strengthen himself.
  • Tidus uses Haste plus wind and water attacks to improve party speed and pressure Stagger gauges.

What is still unknown

Ten Vision identities are now official, but only Cecil, Bartz, Squall, Zidane, and Tidus have detailed combat roles in the July information. The remaining 16 identities, the complete ability lists, and the best party combinations are still unknown, so rankings should wait for launch data.
