Quick answer

The July 2026 Japan Expo presentation added meaningful detail to Final Fantasy Resonance's combat, character customization, summons, equipment progression, and world exploration. The later Pixel Trailer information now confirms many of those systems and adds named Visions, Espers, minigames, locations, and reward details.

The presentation also showed Espers fighting automatically for three turns, introduced Tablet Fragment rewards and Aileen's weapon forging, and explained why the Chamber of Arms matters for late-game equipment.

How the Vision system works

Each Vision provides special techniques, but its value goes beyond the attack shown during a Stagger opening. Fighting with a Vision teaches abilities, and those learned abilities can be assigned to characters within an AP cost limit.

Producer Keisuke Nakashima compared the customization idea to the job system in Final Fantasy V and the learned-ability structure of Final Fantasy IX. That comparison explains the intended player loop: experiment with Visions, learn useful abilities, then build a character setup that fits the next challenge.

The presentation stated a total of 26 Visions. The later Pixel Trailer details officially describe five useful examples: Cecil covers offense, defense, and healing; Bartz pressures Stagger gauges with fire and ice; Squall builds standard-attack damage; Zidane drains enemy vitality and speed; and Tidus uses Haste with wind and water attacks.

Vision crystals are obtained at Sanctums of Light around the world. That makes exploration part of the character-building loop, but exact sanctuary routes and a best-Vision ranking should wait for launch testing.

How Espers differ from Visions

Visions support character customization and Resonance attacks. Espers are temporary summons: once called, an Esper stays for three turns and finishes with a powerful attack before disappearing. Ifrit uses Hellfire, Shiva uses Diamond Dust, and Titan uses Gaia's Wrath.

This makes the timing of a summon important. Players may need to consider the battle timeline, the Esper's automatic behavior, and whether its final attack will land during a useful damage window.

Side content now has clearer rewards

The presentation described three equipment-focused activities:

  1. Search the world for tablet shards that provide useful items.
  2. Explore dangerous crypts and complete side content to find adamantite for Aileen's weapon forging.
  3. Perform well in town minigames such as jump rope and Mog Tag to earn rewards.
  4. Develop a deliberate party for harder Colosseum leagues and the monsters guarding the Twelve Legendary Arms.

This is more useful than a generic promise of side content because each activity now has a clear player reward: exploration gear, forged weapons, or boss equipment.

World map and exploration

The live demonstration included a traditional world map and Chocobo travel. The newer information names two important destinations: Dilmagia, the birthplace of airship technology and the title Cid, and Olderion, a water-rich capital protected by the Wardens of the Waters and a local esper. These details reinforce a classic world-travel structure without proving that the game is open world.

Source status

Japan Expo's official schedule lists a special Final Fantasy Resonance presentation by producer Keisuke Nakashima. The later Pixel Trailer rollout confirms the named Vision roles, Sanctums of Light, Aileen's adamantite requirement, three-turn Espers, town minigames, and high-difficulty content. The total of 26 Visions and AP-limit explanation still come from the live presentation and should remain attributed to Japan Expo.

What players should watch next

  • The complete 26-Vision roster and each Vision's full learnable ability list.
  • Exact AP limits and whether they grow through progression.
  • Esper acquisition requirements, MP costs, and the complete summon roster.
  • Tablet Fragment locations, Aileen recipes, and Chamber of Arms rewards after release.
